(a) Bageshwar — Coolie -Begar was a non violent movement in Kumaun region of Bageshwar town of Uttarakhand. This movement was led by Hargovind Pant and Badri Datt Pandey. According to this system, each village head in the region was tasked to maintain a register with names of all the local farmers who can be used as coolies for carrying the luggage of the travelling British officials, soldiers, mountaineers and surveyors free of cost. The farmers were also supposed to provide the British officials with milk, vegetables and fruits.
