(c) 2nd October, 2009 — On 2nd October, 2009, an amendment was made in the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005, to change the nomenclature of the Act from NREGA to MGNREGA. The Section 1 (1) was amended by renaming the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) with the words the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). The mandate of the MGNREGA is to provide at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment in a financial year to every rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
