(a) Bhishmchand — • Bhishma Chand ascended to the throne of Champawat in AD 1555 and reigned until AD 1560. His reign remained troubled by various rebellions in his kingdom. The Chief of Doti, pali and Syunara revolted and had to be subdued. He strongly felt a need for the capital to be at a central place and realized that Champawat was not a suitable capital centre to administer the enlarged Chand territory. He, therefore, decided to shift his capital to Khagmara, where he settled himself at the old Khagmara fort (Almora) to make a start. While he was staying there, a Khashia chief named Gajawa, who lived is a fortress near Ramgarh, made a sudden nocturnal attack on Khagmara fort and slew the aged king. That event took place in AD 1560.
